I called this number a number of years ago when they were really getting into the 1 in 9 has or will get breast cancer. I know a lot of women, it isn't that high. I must always ask why. So I called.
I got the local president of the cancer society and she actually was very honest with me. She even sent me the research numbers. 1 in 9 is a metaphor. When I said that is was scaring people, she said that it was supposed to do that. We need to be scared.
She told me that anybody who is diagnosed with cysts or fibrocystic problems and I forgot what else, it all got put into the cancer statistics. I don't think this is honest.
later, cancer rates were rising because of HRT. My doctor wanted to put me on it when I started menopause. I told him no. I think it causes cancer. He disagreed. It turned out I was right. After that, when I proved him wrong again about other things, he called me an intelligent independent minded bitch. I love it.
